Honest Self Branding, Exorcising Meta

🐭Coming To Terms With My Own Hypocrisy🐭

For a long time, I have held the belief that the negatives of social media far outweigh the positives. I have continued to use social media despite this belief. Facebook is miserable, but it is so integrated into my life and my local community. It is how I find out about events, see what people I know are doing, and often where I learn about news.

But I think the main reason I have kept using it is to let people know what I am up to. I think I use it to present myself in a certain way to my local community. I have gotten jobs through social media, made money through it, planned and advertised events. It is difficult to let go of the control it gives me over my public image.

But I don't want to think about my public image. I want to make art. Be with friends. Experience their art. And live a life where I primarily interact with people without computers between us.

With Meta building a new data center that will wreak havoc on my state of Louisiana and charge us for it, I want to figure out how to remove myself from their blood thirsty network.

I want to use the internet on my own terms and connect with people in a way that will enrich my life and not give data, language, images, and fuel to Meta and the AI demons they are in the process of summoning.

Being someone who uses facebook to control their own branding is not a brand I want to have. I'm going to figure out the internet presence and purpose I want and work towards that.

Facebook is for losers, and I am clearly a winner.

I'm going to post thoughts here for now while I work on a more concrete plan.
